2002 Trip Information
Our next trip will be to Bolivia once again, to the cities of Cochabamba and Guayaramerín, as in 2001.

Cochabamba will be Medical, Surgical and Education, 40 or more people.
Guayaramerín will be Medical only, about 12 people.

Dates:   Leave USA Saturday, February 9, 2002
Arrive USA Sunday, February 24, 2002

We have booked (tentatively) 52 seats on American Airlines:
41 leaving from Boston
3  from Chicago
2  from Minneapolis
6  from Albuquerque  (slightly west of Hancock County)

Our destinations:
Cochabamba:    central Bolivia - population about 500,000; altitude 8000 feet,                         moderate climate, still in the mountains.
Guayaramerín:  Northern tip of Bolivia - population about 40,000; altitude 400 feet,                                         hot climate, Amazon Basin, flat land and rivers.

We are making every effort not to enter Bolivia via La Paz.  Coming from sea level to 12,000 feet in altitude (oh, but the mountains are spectacular) produced ill effects in a large percentage of last February's travelers: dizziness, headaches, joint pain and nausea, particularly for those who overnighted there.  Cochabamba, at 8000 feet,  is no problem.   Leaving via La Paz after two weeks presented no problems except for those working in sunny Guayaramerín, a town slightly above sea level and slightly cooler than a jet exhaust.
